We are proud to announce that our project “Pixels” has achieved Second Place in the international Kinderspace: Architecture for Children’s Development #3 competition : a prestigious global design challenge dedicated to reimagining spaces that nurture childhood development.

The Competition

The Kinderspace competition invites architects and designers to rethink traditional educational environments, exploring how spatial design can promote play, learning, exploration, and social interaction for children. Projects are judged not only for innovation but also for their sensitivity to context, materiality, and user experience.

About “Pixels”

Our proposal draws inspiration from the rhythm of Vienna’s Naschmarkt to reimagine a currently underused parking area as a modular, child-centered educational landscape. Each “pixel” represents a distinct functional unit : learning, play, rest, and care ; that together form a coherent and stimulating educational landscape.

The modular approach allows for flexibility and adaptability, supporting a variety of spatial experiences while maintaining an intuitive organizational logic. The design integrates interior volumes, intermediate courtyards, and playful circulation paths, creating a journey that is both engaging and developmentally appropriate for children.

Jury Feedback

The international jury highlighted several strengths of our proposal:

• Modular “pixel” logic: praised for balancing flexibility with clarity, providing an intuitive structure for varied activities.
• Contextual sensitivity: carefully mediates between the project and the surrounding urban fabric, creating an inviting and harmonious environment.
• Materiality and spatial sequencing: warm and child-friendly design from interiors to outdoor spaces.
• Presentation quality: precise technical drawings and atmospheric renderings that clearly communicate the concept and design intent.
