The COMMOD Kleingartenhaus reinterprets the traditional Viennese garden house as a compact, modular timber dwelling. It is designed for a lifestyle where the home and the garden function as one, allowing daily life to move seamlessly between indoors and out. With a gross floor area of 78 m², the house is assembled from four modules and organized over two storeys. The pitched roof follows local building regulations and is a defining part of the design, giving the building a calm, precise presence while creating a surprisingly generous sense of space inside.
The ground floor is the heart of the home. The living, dining, and kitchen areas are combined into one continuous, open space with direct access to the terrace. Natural timber surfaces and exposed wooden elements define the interior, creating a warm and modern atmosphere. A bathroom with a shower completes the program on this level. The upper floor contains two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub, arranged with clarity to provide a distinct separation between social areas and private rooms. The unique shape of the roof adds to the spatial character of the upper floor, making the bedrooms feel bright and airy.
The terrace surrounding the house is designed as a true extension of the architecture. Pergolas and planted zones form natural transitions to the outdoors, supporting garden activities and expanding the usable living area of the site. The project combines smart modular construction and spatial efficiency with the classic logic of the Viennese garden house within a precise, sustainable framework.
